Behavioural change specialists Changing Health has picked up a coveted Quality in Care (QiC) award for its innovative programme to prevent Type 2 diabetes.

The awards recognise the best initiatives and professionals in diabetes management, education and patient care across the UK, and are seen as a fast-track route to widespread recognition and adoption in the NHS.

The judges in the Prevention and Early Diagnosis category said: “Changing Health’s programme was a clear and outstanding winner! They demonstrated good use of technology and the patients were reviewed regularly to check their compatibility with the programme as it progressed.

“Changing Health showed a clear commitment to deliver a sustainable solution for positive patient outcomes, including preventing Type 2 Diabetes through patient empowerment. This is the future of diabetes prevention!”

12.3 million people in the UK are currently at high risk of developing Type 2 diabetes. Changing Health’s winning programme combines new technology and behavioural change techniques empowering people to make long-term, positive lifestyle changes and prevent the onset of the condition. Earlier this year, it was adopted by NHS England as part of its national Healthier You NHS Diabetes Prevention Programme.

Professor Mike Trenell, co-founder and CSO of Changing Health said: “Winning this award is an incredible achievement for Changing Health after a brilliant and momentous year. Our programme is all about empowering participants to make a lifestyle change that lasts. It combines bespoke, one-to-one lifestyle coaching with a personalised course of structured diabetes education. What works for one participant may not work for another; we know that that personalised support for each participant – based on their individual habits, traits and circumstances – is the key to preventing Type 2 diabetes at scale.”

With Changing Health, people at risk of diabetes learn how they can best fit simple lifestyle changes into their lives and receive personalised support to help them make those changes.  Each participant sets their goals based on their ability to change at any one time and they can call on their dedicated lifestyle coach whenever they are in need of support, or even just to chat about their health.
